The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
