A trio of officers perished and at least 15 people got wounded in a seemingly intentional detonation from gas at a farmhouse in the northern part of Italy.

How It Happened

The blast was triggered as police and firefighters went into the house in the vicinity of the Verona region to carry out an court-ordered eviction for three siblings in their late 50s and mid-60s.

Each of the three victims who died belonged to the Italian military police.

Legal Proceedings

A man and a woman were arrested at the scene and one more individual who escaped subsequent to the incident was found shortly later. Each of them have been transported to hospital.

The explosion could be noticed approximately 5 kilometers away and images from the area revealed the structure left as a heap of debris.

The wounded by the blast comprised an additional 11 personnel of the military police as well as three officers of the state police and a fire services member.

The official believed the explosion had occurred on a story above the access point and stated to reporters it was a “intentional and planned killing”. Just prior to the blast, he mentioned personnel had “noticed a hissing sound, likely the gas cylinders being activated”.

“We all knew the situation was dire,” neighbors stated to reporters, adding that the family members had previously threatened to “cause an explosion” rather than be evicted.

“The explosion had left a ‘terrible, very painful and dramatic toll’.”
