'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Young People Await Answers After Alpine Inferno
The families of teens lost after a deadly fire at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are enduring an agonising wait for confirmed information and pleading for information about their loved ones publicly.
The fire devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Confirmed video depict the ceiling catching alight as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Authorities have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another scores more. Authorities said on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with work still underway to name the other six.
In the interim, relatives have been using online platforms to plead for any news about their loved ones who were present at the venue that evening.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his family.
The who lives of a town near Lausanne, informed a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she said.
She added that some of his friends had been located with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured an absolute nightmare."
The Italian foreign ministry has said that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "talented young man who represented passion and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His mother said that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"A companion said they fled after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
One of his educators said, "I remember his good nature and positive demeanor, alongside great maturity. Every time offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek nationality but lives full-time in the country, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has shared an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are actively engaged with the case.
