Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase like this with performances like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
