Accused Harasser Asked: 'But What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with stalking Kate McCann reportedly left her a phone message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who a jury heard has consistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal heard call records and information retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test over the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most covered investigations and is still unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate voicemail, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I know what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Wouldn't that be important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a existence here in Poland, I only wish to know," the message continued.
The jury was advised that by means of emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who compiled the information, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, the father responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court learned the co-defendant established a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in the county in December 2024.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be treated respectfully in the months preceding the visit to the village, Leicestershire, in last December.
The court was told communications between the two defendants, in last November, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her garbage or from cutlery at a dining venue.
"We must take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their house, the defendant sent a message which said: "We are sitting near the McCanns' residence with our headlights off similar to investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
